Pine Jog Elementary School

Client: Palm Beach County School District, West Palm Beach, Florida

Partner: Zyscovich, Incorporated

Size: 128,291 square feet (Elementary), 17,105 square feet (EEC)

Pine Jog Elementary School and Pine Jog Environmental Education Center represent an innovative collaboration providing environmental stewardship and enhanced learning opportunities for students and staff across the educational continuum.

This is the first time that a School Board in South Florida has made a policy to pursue LEED® certification for a public school project. This truly unique collaborative is a partnership between the School District of Palm Beach County and Florida Atlantic University devised to provide environmental stewardship over an existing 150 acre pineland preserve while forming the basis of several innovative curriculum initiatives.

Among these are the introduction of built environmental education and the creation of intern teacher training programs in the Florida Atlantic University College of Education that will prepare K-12 teachers to more effectively use high performance schools to enrich and enhance the educational delivery process.

The K5 Pine Jog Elementary School and the adjacent Pine Jog Environmental Center will share site amenities and civil infrastructure while serving the educational community with a variety of coordinated course offerings that will be networked into the greater South Florida region and beyond.

LEED consultant to Zyscovich Architects.
