CCI Center

Client: Conservation Consultants Incorporated

Partner: Architects: Tai + Lee

Size: 12,500 Square Feet / 1160 Square Meters

CCI Center is the home of Conservation Consultants Incorporated and sevreal other non-profit environmental groups.

The CCI Center, is a LEED GOLD-EB (Existing Buildings) office and resource space that houses several non-profit organizations dedicated to resource conservation and other related environmental issues.
It is a combination of adaptive reuse of an existing building and new construction. The building was awarded a LEED Gold rating in 2005 and was selected one of the American Institute of Architects Top Ten Buildings in 1999. It also received the Governors Award for Environmental Excellence and recognition from the Mayor of Pittsburgh for the adaptive reuse of historic architecture.

Among its many energy and environmental design features are a high performance thermal envelop (building shell), gas powered air conditioning, extensive day lighting linked to energy efficient fluorescent lighting and controls, heat recovery ventilation, a 1.5 kW photovoltaic array and water saving fixtures. Superior indoor air quality is achieved through natural materials and the elimination of volatile organic compounds in the finishes. CCI Center is using approximately 60% of the energy of a typical office building in the Pittsburgh region. As an environmental resource hub, The CCI Center enhances the ability of organizations interested in sustainable development and design to cooperate and create a more comprehensive approach to regional problems.

CCI Center is heavily used as an extension of local school environmental education programs and is widely know for its quality K-12 program offerings, building tours, and work with the local Intermediate Units. The building is designed to illustrate how building systems function, and how occupant education can influence overall energy and resource consumption patterns.
